Adriane
“Things can shift a lot in a day, so you have to zig and zag, but it’s really satisfying to support a project from start to finish, and see something go from raw land to a great new community.”
Adriane project manages Mattamy developments, serving as a steady conduit from land acquisition, to construction, to project completion. Working with planners, city officials and contractors, she is immersed in engineering plans, permits, contracts and budgets essential to get shovels in the ground, to help projects evolve with changing requirements, and to close on schedule for homebuyers.
How’d you get started at Mattamy?
I went to school not knowing exactly what I wanted, but I turned my science background into a job as a geo-technical and environmental consultant. I enjoyed consulting projects for homebuilders – I liked construction and seeing things progress to completion – so I applied to be a project manager with Mattamy where I saw the chance to grow my career.
What do you enjoy about your job?
Every single day is a new day with new challenges, and that keeps me driven because it’s not continuously doing the same thing. Here, you’ve got to be on point, and it just challenges you mentally, physically and emotionally. Some communities take up to four years to complete – and there are so many plans to manage – but when you see walls going up, it motivates you to keep going. There’s always something to learn and Mattamy is a supportive company that wants success for you, so you can build as a person, and develop your brand in the company and the industry.
How do you balance other life priorities with your Mattamy career?
For me, I’m big on working out, eating healthy, and spending time with my family and pets. Mattamy definitely gives us a lot of time off to focus on ourselves, including personal wellness days. They really want to make sure we stay healthy and happy, inside and outside of work, so we feel ready for the next day.
What type of person can thrive in a career at Mattamy?
I believe that Mattamy doesn’t pick a certain type of person but rather this company sees that everyone has different strengths that can be good for the team. You can be successful here, whoever you are and however you are, since Mattamy will help mould you into the right position for you. In my role, you definitely need to be detail-oriented and have a passion to get things done, but I’m also part of a team that supports each other, we like to have fun and be ourselves.
