“Mattamy lets me spread my wings, learn on the job, and still find the time I need for my family, which is huge to me. As long as I get my work done, there’s no issue with me leaving to make my son’s games or practices.”

Asya and her team handle all purchasing needs of future Mattamy communities in the Phoenix area, so construction can begin and end on schedule. She maintains strong relationships with trades and vendors, drafts and reviews bid documents, and negotiates contracts, so Mattamy gets the right price and hires the best tradespeople to do quality work.

How’d you get started at Mattamy?

I’ve had a lot of jobs, everything from farm worker, to test car driver, to estimator for a custom marble producer. I didn’t know my skills mattered when I applied to Mattamy, but they saw something in me. I started as Purchasing Coordinator, and I showed them I wanted to do more. My manager told me, “If you want to learn, we’ll teach you.”  And here I am.

What makes your role interesting and challenging?

Since we want to keep up with the market and homebuyer needs, there’s always something to learn about new products, how they are made, and fun options for homebuyers.  It takes an analytical brain, and you have to be detail oriented, to know your pricing and be able to see what’s right or not.

Any recent accomplishment you feel especially proud of?

We recently worked as a team to go back to all our trades to find price savings. As part of this cost reduction initiative, we dramatically reduced our cost of building a home, which is good for the company and our homebuyers. And, we did this while completing five new communities, getting our bids and contracts out on time, and hitting all our deadlines.

How do you balance other life priorities with your Mattamy career?

Mattamy really makes having a family life easy. As a mother of a combined family of four children, three grandbabies, and two senior dogs, there are always birthdays to celebrate, barbeques to cook, and things to get done. As long as I stay organized throughout the day, I can leave when I need to for these events, which is great.

What type of person can thrive in a career at Mattamy?

You need to have integrity, be consistent – by bringing your best self to the job and doing good work every day – and work well with a team. If you have those traits, I believe you can make it in any part of this company.
